Julep Holiday Nail Set + Giveaway

Nothing says "Hello Holidays" quite like a beautiful manicure completed with glittery gold nailpolish. Julep is celebrating the season with a new Holiday color set that includes 4 signature shades for every holiday soiree. "Cyndi" is a deep chocolate polish with festive red sparkles, "Stefani" is a glittery olive green, "Sienna" is an oh-so-festive and sophisticated shimmery gold foil, and last but not least is "Molly" Julep’s update on a classic red. The set retails for $29 and is also available online at www.julep.com.

So what's the secret to fabulous nails? Jane Park, CEO of Julep Nail Parlor shares her favorite holiday nail tips & tricks.

Dry Winter Hands? Unfortunately, just slathering on lotion doesn’t help. Exfoliating your hands is the key to ensuring that your moisturizer can reach past the layers of dead skin cells to do their job. At Julep, we use a sea salt and natural almond oil scrub to exfoliate hands and feet before applying lotion. For women who have very dry hands, or for women with significant age spots, I always recommend our “Girlfriend’s Glycolic Manicure”, which always wows our guests with immediate, dramatic results. One of my friends told me she just couldn’t stop touching her hands after this manicure – her skin was so soft. With the deep glycolic exfoliation, all of the rough, dead skin cells were sloughed away – exposing younger-looking, dramatically softer skin. Moisturizer doesn’t work if you don’t exfoliate! During the winter, Jane uses our Refresh Exfoliating Scrub on her hands everyday to exfoliate, hydrate and protect in just one step. (Plus it’s all natural and smells just amazing).

Migrating manicure?
To keep your manicure or pedicure looking fresh all holiday season, follow these tips! Sealing the “free edge” with every layer. The base coat, nail polish, and top coat should be applied across the “free edge” the part of your nail that is clipped or filed. Sealing the free edge can double the life of your manicure from only days to a full week or more by protecting your manicure from water damage and the resulting lifting or chipping of polish. The manicurist should run the brush of the base, color, and top coats along this edge, painting “horizontally” across the tip of your nail in addition to painting “vertically” along your nail. At the end of your manicure, you should not be able to see the white edge of your nail if your manicurist is using a colored polish.

Cuticle & Top Coat Tip: Maintain your manicure by applying cuticle oil on the cuticle and across the polish twice a day and applying a coat of top coat every other day. Top coat wears off with all the hand washing, typing, rubbing and abuse we put our hands through. Don’t worry – applying multiple coats of top-coat throughout the week will not result in your polish feeling thick and heavy. A fresh coat merely replaces the protective layer that often wears down within 48 hours. And don’t forget to “seal the free edge” with your top coat!

Water Protection for Nails: Protect against water: Always wear gloves when doing dishes – water is the enemy of a great manicure. Nail polish can take up to 12 hours to fully harden and “cure.” In particular, try to avoid hot water. Use
hand sanitizer, or cold water and soap to wash your hands (helps harden the nail polish).

Schedule Early. Most high quality salons and spas are very busy over the holidays so be sure to book early! December 23 and December 31st are two of our busiest days at Julep.

Holiday Nail Tip: For the holidays, you’ve just got to do red. ‘Tis the season, and red is instant glamour in a bottle. Especially if bold red lips are not in your repertoire, you should experiment with bold reds in your pedicures and manicures. Sparkly is always fun (TIP: sparkly or glittery nail polish tends to last longer because of the higher proportion of solids in the nail polish!). We love Marilyn (our red glitter) –It’s instantly figure enhancing. A deep wine red is more conservative for holiday work parties or for meeting the in-laws for the first time. We also love the classic fire engine red. So timeless and enduring.

New Year’s Eve Nails: We love the sophistication of white on my hands and black on my toes for New Year’s Eve.
With a black or silver sequined dress and spikey heels!

Modern Vintage Meets Maximal Art

Vintage-inspired jewelry designer John Wind loves creating pieces that clients will connect to and fall in love with. His line, Maximal Art is comprised of unique pieces that are stylish, sophisticated and destined to become instant favorites in your jewelry box. John originally started making jewelry in college while studying at the Slade School of Art in London. On weekends he would peruse the Portobello Market and look for great vintage trinkets that he could use to create custom jewelry. "I'm really inspired by the past. I love everything ‘Vintage’, from Victorian to the 1970’s. That’s where my creative process starts, and then I look for a modern, contemporary balance to counterpoint the old," says John.

The line features great pieces including this Mid-Summer Nights Dream Necklace that has a great woven metal mesh collar adorned with flowers, rhinestone birds and even a sweet lady bug. This necklace makes a great gift for the whimsical jewelry lover in your life.

The Jewelry Box also includes a beautiful 3 strand glass pearl collar with a crystal vintage clasp. So pretty for a holiday black-tie event or family pictures with Santa.

When it comes to vintage jewelry, John Wind finds a way to make everything old new again. The end result is a beautiful collection of truly timeless pieces.
